Flower, pre-rolls, vapes, concentrates and edibles: how each format differs and what to check before you choose.

Cannabis doesn’t come in just one format.

A modern dispensary menu can include flower, pre-rolls, vapes, concentrates, edibles and more. Each category is different, and understanding the basics makes the menu much easier to navigate.

Here’s a simple overview.

Flower

Flower is the traditional dried cannabis bud.

It’s also the heart of the MuMu’s menu.

Flower can be sold across many strains, sizes, THC levels and price points.

You’ll often see strains categorized as:

  • Indica
  • Sativa
  • Hybrid

You may also see different sizes ranging from smaller amounts up to an ounce.

Flower is a good category to explore if strain selection, aroma, price, and variety are important to you.

Pre-Rolls

Pre-rolls are cannabis flower that has already been rolled and is ready to use.

They can be convenient for people who don’t want to grind and roll flower themselves.

Some menus also include infused pre-rolls, which combine flower with cannabis concentrates and can contain substantially higher THC levels than a standard flower pre-roll.

Always check the product information before choosing.

Vapes

Cannabis vapes use cannabis oil or extracts in a vaporizing device.

Common formats include:

  • Cartridges
  • Disposable vapes

Cartridges generally attach to a compatible battery, while disposables usually include the device and oil together.

Cannabis oils used in vaping can contain concentrated levels of THC. The CDC notes that highly concentrated THC products may produce stronger intoxicating effects and carry additional risks, so product strength is worth paying attention to. (CDC)

Concentrates

Concentrates are cannabis products created by extracting and concentrating compounds from the cannabis plant.

The category can include products such as:

  • Dabs
  • Hash
  • Wax
  • Live resin
  • Other extracts

Concentrates can contain much higher concentrations of THC than traditional flower. (CDC)

If you’re comparing concentrates, look at the product type, amount, potency information and format rather than assuming every concentrate is interchangeable.

Edibles

Edibles are foods or candies infused with cannabis.

Gummies are one of the most common examples.

Instead of looking only at the price of the package, check:

  • Total THC in the package
  • Number of pieces
  • THC per piece

Edibles work differently from inhaled cannabis.

The CDC notes that intoxicating effects from edibles can take approximately 30 minutes to two hours to appear and can last longer than expected, which is why consuming more before the first serving has taken effect can create problems. (CDC)

Which Cannabis Product Is Right for You?

There isn’t one category that is automatically better than another.

Start by thinking about:

  • What format you prefer
  • How familiar you are with cannabis
  • Product strength
  • Price
  • Convenience
  • The kind of experience you’re looking for

Someone who loves comparing flower strains may spend most of their time in the Flower menu.

Someone looking for convenience might prefer a pre-roll or vape.

Someone interested in a different format may look toward concentrates or edibles.

The point is choice.

You Don’t Need to Know Everything Before You Shop

Cannabis menus can contain a lot of information, especially if you’re newer to dispensaries.

You don’t need to memorize every strain, cannabinoid or product category.

Use the menu to narrow things down, read the available product information, and ask questions when you need help.

At MuMu’s, the goal is to make that process straightforward.

Browse the menu, find something that fits what you’re looking for, reserve it for pickup, or stop by and talk to the team.

Good to know

Questions, answered

What’s the difference between flower and a pre-roll?

Flower is loose cannabis bud. A pre-roll contains cannabis that has already been prepared and rolled.

What’s the difference between a vape cartridge and a disposable vape?

A cartridge normally requires a compatible battery. A disposable vape typically contains both the oil and the device in one unit.

Are concentrates stronger than flower?

Concentrates can contain substantially higher concentrations of THC than cannabis flower. (CDC)

Why are edibles different from smoking or vaping?

Edibles are consumed through digestion rather than inhalation. Their intoxicating effects can take longer to appear and may last longer. (CDC)

Can I reserve products online?

Yes. MuMu’s currently supports online reservations for pickup, with payment completed at the store.

Try picking by effect.

Relax, Focus, Sleep, Social, Creative. Filter the menu the way this post describes.
