Short answer: at New York’s average dispensary price of $38.96 per eighth, an ounce (eight eighths) works out to about $312. At MuMu’s, every ounce on the board costs between $60 and $250, and the price on the menu is the price you pay at the counter.
An ounce is 28 grams, and it’s the size most regulars buy. It’s also where price differences between dispensaries show up the most. A few dollars per eighth turns into hundreds of dollars per ounce.
Below is what an ounce costs in New York in 2026, what you get at each price at MuMu’s, and the easiest ways to pay less.
What an ounce costs at New York’s average price
New York’s Office of Cannabis Management tracks prices at licensed dispensaries. In its spring 2025 analysis the average price for 3.5 grams (an eighth) was $38.96, according to Ganjapreneur’s report on the OCM data. Prices have been falling slowly since the market opened, but New York is still one of the most expensive legal markets in the country.
An ounce is eight eighths, so at that average you’d pay around $312 buying an ounce’s worth by the eighth. Many shops price their ounces a little lower than eight eighths, but premium ounces in New York regularly sell for well over $200.

Why ounces are priced differently
Two ounces of the same weight can be very different products. The price on our board mostly comes down to four things:
- Quality of the batch. Density, trichome coverage, how it was dried and cured, and how it smells when you open the jar.
- Genetics. Newer, sought-after strains and limited drops sit higher than everyday classics.
- Freshness. A fresh batch smokes better than one that’s been sitting. We rotate the board as batches come and go.
- Demand. Strains that sell out fast cost more to keep on the shelf.
THC percentage on its own isn’t a good price guide. Our guide on how to choose cannabis flower explains what to look at instead.
Is a cheap ounce worth it?
A $60 ounce is a great everyday smoke, not a compromise. Our lower tiers are where you’ll find dependable classics like Tangie and Sour Maui, good for rolling up through the week without thinking about cost. The higher tiers are for when you want something special: more flavor, more bag appeal, a strain you’ve been hunting for.
If you’re not sure, ask at the counter. Tell us what you liked last time and what you’re after, and we’ll narrow it down to two or three jars.
How to pay even less for an ounce
- Ask about the power sale. A select fresh batch of $150 and $300 ounces is on Buy 2 Get 1 Free in store right now. Three $150 ounces for $300 works out to $100 an ounce. Ask at the counter which strains are in.
- Check the daily deals. There are new sales every day. See today’s deals before you order.
- Veterans save. MuMu’s is veteran-owned, and any veteran gets a discount. Just ask.
- Compare by the ounce. The bigger the size, the lower the price per gram. Our ounce vs. eighth breakdown does the math.
